City teams visit Leonsdale for public housing maintenance

The City’s Human Settlements teams are carrying out maintenance and upgrades to public housing rental units across the metro. On Friday, 28 February 2025, maintenance teams visited a number of courts in Leonsdale where repairs were completed.
The Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, visited Leonsdale where Human Settlements teams were completing general maintenance and urgent repairs.
‘Our maintenance teams are making their way throughout the metro to perform essential maintenance work at our Community Residential Units (CRUs) in a number of communities. Our expert artisans addressed critical maintenance needs in the Leonsdale area, including ceiling repairs, painting and other essential upgrades aimed at enhancing the living conditions of our residents. The City is committed to ensuring that our CRUs are safe and well maintained, and our 2025 maintenance drive is a testament to our dedication to improving the lives of our residents,’ said Councillor Pophaim.
CRU maintenance work includes:
• Carpentry - secure and repair gutters, fabrication and installations of new sink cupboards
• Bricklaying - repairs to existing concrete stairs, brick/block structures and installation of additional washing lines
• Welding - repairs to refuse huts and staircase hand rails
• Painting - painting of graffiti on flats and refuse huts, and replacing of broken window panes
• Ceiling repairs and replacements – urgent repairs to damaged ceilings in a number of units
• Electrical - repairs to area lighting on property, and repairs to faulty plug sockets and light switches in various units
• Plumbing - jetting of sewer lines on property and domestic plumbing issues in various units
‘The City thanks residents for working with us during our maintenance and upgrade work in the area and we will be moving to other areas within the metro to address urgent repairs and upgrades. We encourage residents to report their maintenance needs to us by contacting our Human Settlements call centre. Furthermore, we urge residents to report any instances of vandalism to the City. By working together, we can ensure that our public housing units are safe and comfortable for all,’ said Councillor Pophaim
